Teachings on Turtle Island and Land Acknowledgements in an Art Form

June 21, 2022 @ 12:00 pm 5:00 pm

This Art project was a collaborative work with one of the school of the Toronto TCDSB students of grades 4 and 5 of a French Immersion School. The students have learned which Countries shaped Turtle Island. They have also learned that the Land acknowledgement is more than just acknowledging the people of the area, the ones that have crossed the area in our communities. We do understand in our communities that we acknowledge the whole and the relationship with the land, the animals, the water, the Sun & the Moon. We spoke about sky woman and the geese who tried to help her not hurt herself coming from the spiritual realm to the physical form. There is an understanding of working with muskrat.

This show will be a dynamic mix of artwork that balances the love and respect we hold for our natural world while drawing attention to the devastating changes affecting us due to climate change. In doing so, we can, as artists, add our voices to the call for action now!

The painting “Singing to the Land” was selected to be part of this exhibition.
